disco quilt

This is a project in the pipeline, I want to make a piece using some of the outfits I used to wear when I was clubbing in the 90’s. It probably won’t end up looking like this but I’m trying to fire myself up to get it started.

The big pieces always take a long time, at least a number of months, to complete and it is a bit of a test of nerves to keep going because you really can’t tell until it’s finished if it was worth doing. In fact it’s the same with everything but at least with painting and drawing you don’t have to invest so much time on a whim as it were and it doesn’t take so long before you know it’s time to move onto something else.

I can’t work exclusively on a big textiles piece because I get too obsessed, I have to limit how much time I spend working on them and do other stuff round them. Handy having a Dog.

A2 paintings on paper

I’ve been working a bit bigger, gone from A3 to A2. It makes A3 seem rather small and constrained. There’s more scope for gestural marks on bigger paper.

Fuji and I have been walking at Sunderland Bridge and there are a lot of tall conifers, that’s where the paintings with a forest of verticals come from. We were there yesterday and met Freddy a Labrador who is the same age and bounce as Fuji so they had a play off the lead together. It took meĀ  a while to get Fuji out of the bushes after that but we got there.
